About Robert

Robert Black is senior vice president in Northmarq’s Portland office working with the West Coast Investment Sales team specializing in multifamily investments. Robert’s background includes over 25 years in commercial real estate, focusing on urban and suburban multifamily and multifamily land development projects totaling in excess of $2 billion in transaction volume. He has been one of the most active brokers of multifamily land in the urban Portland market working with many significant landowners that include, Con-way, OAME, Prometheus, XPO Logistics, Sun Cap, Alamo Manhattan, Fore, Wood Partners, Greystar and many others.

Robert prides himself on his client relationships and always putting their interests first. He also has a deep passion for Portland and great pride in the town and its post-pandemic recovery. He is a well-established and respected member of the commercial real estate community. 

Along with significant urban land sales, Robert has been the most prolific broker selling new construction urban apartments over the past 15 years. The urban building boom started in 2003 and reached its highest level of deliveries between 2017 and 2021. His understanding of the pipeline, underwriting of new construction and the demand drivers is unmatched and respected in the industry. 

Prior to joining Northmarq, Robert had great success at ARA Newmark where, over his 10 years, he completed some of the most significant and, at times, challenging transactions in the market. Robert also held a role as senior vice president at NAI Norris, Beggs and Simpson in Portland, where he gained over 16 years of experience in the commercial real estate market, specializing in land, apartment, and affordable housing investment sales. 

Robert’s award-winning background includes the Commercial Association Brokers Bill Naito Award in 2008, 2009 runner-up for the Bill Naito Award, and 2013 and 2014 runner-up for Investment Broker of the Year for the Commercial Association of Brokers of Oregon and Southwest Washington.

Robert earned a Business Administration degree from University of New Mexico where he majored in international economics and finance.
